Have you ever heard someone say they are “in tune” with their body and wondered what that even means? It sounds a bit like a superpower, but it’s really about deep self-awareness. It’s the ability to listen to your body’s subtle signals and understand what they’re trying to tell you.
For example, I know if I’ve accidentally eaten certain trigger foods because I feel it in my joints. My colleague Joanne can tell if she has had gluten because she struggles to remember words afterwards. These are the kinds of connections you can learn to make.
Being “in tune” means you can recognise when you feel amazing and understand what led to it. It also means you can identify when you feel off and have the knowledge to take action that feels right for you. It’s about being in the driver’s seat of your own health.
Instead of needing to Google every ache or pain, you’ll have a deep understanding of what nourishes you, what inflames you, and what your body needs to feel its best. This kind of awareness is incredibly empowering and makes managing a chronic health condition so much easier.
It’s the ultimate goal of our work; to give you the understanding needed to take charge and feel better, naturally.
How to Start Listening to Your Body
Getting in tune with your body isn’t about having a medical degree; it’s about paying attention. It’s a skill you develop over time, and it starts with a few simple steps.
- Mindful Eating. Before you eat, take a moment to notice if you’re truly hungry. As you eat, pay attention to the taste and texture of your food. Afterwards, notice how you feel. Are you energised or sluggish?
- Track Your Symptoms. Keep a simple journal to track not just your diet, but also your energy levels, mood, and any physical symptoms like headaches or digestive upset. Look for patterns. You might discover that your afternoon slump always follows a certain type of lunch, or that your joint pain flares up on days you don’t sleep well.
- Notice the Subtle Clues. Sometimes your body’s signals are quiet. Maybe you have a hard time focusing, or you feel a little more irritable than usual. These seemingly small things can be clues that something is off and that your body needs attention.
The Power of Taking Action
Once you start to understand your body’s signals, you’ll be empowered to take meaningful action. You’ll know exactly what you need to do to feel better. This means less guessing and more confident decisions. Instead of just reacting to symptoms, you’ll be able to make choices that prevent them from happening in the first place.
This is a journey of self-discovery, and you don’t have to do it alone.
