Our 5 Summer Essentials

Insight

Summer’s here, bringing with it longer days and a chance to soak up some sunshine! It’s a season many of us look forward to, filled with the outdoors and a more relaxed vibe. But with these changes, our bodies can sometimes need a little extra support to stay feeling their best.

From a functional medicine perspective, thinking about how the summer season interacts with our natural rhythms and potential exposures is key to enjoying summer. We’re all about keeping things no to low tax and natural, steering clear of anything that could introduce unwanted metals or toxins into your system.

1. Making Your Bedroom a Night-Time Cave – Think Dark, Dark, Dark!

Those long, sunny evenings are lovely, right? But all that light hanging around can really mess with your sleep. Your body has this internal clock, your circadian rhythm, and it’s super sensitive to light. When it’s bright out, your brain gets the signal to stay awake, which messes with the hormones that help you wind down.

From a “let’s keep things running smoothly” perspective, good sleep is HUGE. It’s when your body repairs and recharges. So, making your bedroom seriously dark – like a cave – is a game-changer. Putting up some blackout blinds and using a comfy Dore and Rose sleep mask means your body gets the “it’s nighttime” signal loud and clear, even if the sun’s still peeking through. This helps you drift off easier and get that deep, restful sleep that makes all the difference.

2. Your Handy Helper – Keep Some BioCare Quercetin Complex Around

Summer can sometimes bring sniffles and itchy eyes, right? That’s where Quercetin comes in. It’s this natural stuff you find in loads of fruits and veggies. We recommend keeping BioCare Quercetin Complex on hand.

Think of it as a bit of a bodyguard for your system. It’s got these cool properties that can calm things down when your body gets a bit overreacty to pollen and other summer stuff. So, having some Quercetin on hand can be a really natural way to support yourself when those seasonal irritations pop up. Plus, it’s a good all-rounder for keeping things balanced inside.

3. Sunshine Smarts – Loving the Rays the Right Way

We all love a bit of sunshine, and it’s important for getting your vitamin D. But too much, especially without protection, isn’t the best idea for your skin. We’re aiming for that sweet spot; enough sun to feel good, but not so much that it causes problems down the line.

We like Green People for a low-chemical, effective option. These basically create a shield on your skin, keeping things natural. Also, a simple tip, try to chill in the shade between one and three o’clock when the sun’s really strong. Hats and light layers are your friends too!

4. Fresh Pits, Naturally – Why Aluminium-Free Matters

When it’s hot, we all sweat more – it’s our body’s way of cooling down. But those regular deodorants often use aluminium to block your sweat glands.

From a “let’s keep things flowing” viewpoint, sweating is actually a good thing! It helps your body get rid of stuff it doesn’t need. Blocking that process isn’t ideal. For a fresh and natural option, try Lafes Spray Lavender + Aloe, which is free from aluminium and other unwanted ingredients.

5. Hydration Hero – Your Water Bottle is Your Buddy!

Staying hydrated is a no-brainer, especially when it’s hot and you’re out and about. When you’re not drinking enough, you can feel tired, get headaches, and just not feel your best.

Think of water as essential for everything your body does. Keeping a reusable water bottle with you is a super simple way to make sure you’re sipping throughout the day. Maybe even add some electrolytes if you’re sweating a lot. Just listen to your body and keep that water bottle handy – it’s a small thing that makes a big difference in how you feel all summer long.
